Understanding Halo Wars - A Departure

By John W. Hall

The fourth installment of the series is set for release in February 2009. However, the game will be considerably different from its predecessors. Gamers anxious to find out what the game will be like will find those details right here.

While the Halo franchise was founded on the Master Chief and the first person shooter platform, Halo Wars deviates from that path significantly. In fact, the Master Chief is not the main character at all. To take it a step further, the Master Chief is not even the only Spartan any longer. The game takes place more than 20 years prior to the events in the original Halo, revolving around the human crew of the Spirit of Fire.

In addition, the game is no longer a first person shooter. The new iteration is, in fact, a real-time strategy game. Before you chuck your controller out the window in despair, read on. The game's development, including the control system, is significantly different from other RTS type games.

For instance, there is a reduced focus on resource gathering and development. That means that the game's true focus is on battle management (winning). In addition, the control system has been simplified to the point that you can use it effectively with a game controller. The A button is the main control for the entire game. Players use the A button to select single units, all units of the same type or use the "paintbrush" mode to select units in a specific area.

In addition to those changes, players will be able to play the Covenant, at least in skirmishes. Whether the Covenant will be a full player faction or not has not been confirmed, but it has been confirmed that players will be able to control Covenant units in at least some instances. The Flood again makes an appearance, as well. Unlike the Covenant, there has been no mention of whether they will be player-controlled, though rumors abound.

Halo Wars Uncovered - The Prequel Reigns

By John W. Hall

Halo Wars differs in quite a few significant ways from its predecessors. Rather than being a first person shooter, the game is a real-time strategy game. That means that players have to harvest resources, build units and fortify locations, rather than venturing out on their own. However, developers promise that the game will remain true to its action-packed past. While there will definitely be resources that must be harvested, the true focus of the game will be on battle management. That means that you can concentrate on what the Spartans do best; taking out Covenant and Flood units!

The game focuses on the crew of the Spirit of Fire and their AI, Serina. The Covenant is still the "bad guys," though they are not yet in a civil war. The Flood also play a role, which may seem counter to the story's original telling, where the Flood first appeared on the ring of the Halo installation. However, the addition of the Flood will bring additional diversification to an already diverse game.

The storyline of Halo Wars had to be significantly expanded. Because players control entire armies, rather than single characters, the storyline had to undergo major changes and enhancements. Hardcore gamers may actually appreciate the greater depth and breadth of the new story, as it brings together new elements in the Halo universe.

Players anxious to try out the weapons of the enemy will find that the Covenant is a player-controlled faction, at least during some parts of the game. Complete details have not been released by Ensemble yet, but it has been confirmed that players will be able to control Covenant forces during skirmishes and possibly during longer periods.

The game also sees the introduction of an entirely new planet, Arcade, which was created specifically for Halo Wars. The planet will be an invasion point for players. There have been many other additions, both in terms of available units and weaponry, which will keep the game play relevant to Halo history.

Halo Wars - The Anticipation Revealed

By John W. Hall

Fans will be disappointed to learn that the inestimable Master Chief will not be their persona. However, the fact that they now control an entire army may just make up for that lack. Players will control an army of humans and do battle with the Covenant to prevent the annihilation of the human race, as well as fight for control of Forerunner artifacts.

The Covenant is still a major player in the game (possibly the only other player). In fact, it has been confirmed by game designers that the Covenant will even be a playable faction in some instances (at least in skirmishes). That means that players have a broader range of options than during other Halo games to date.

The Flood will definitely make an appearance, whether you like the parasitic invaders or not. There have even been hints (but little more) that the Flood may be playable in some instances.

Confirmation of that fact will have to be made at a later date, but players anxious to test out the range of Flood abilities and units can begin salivating in anticipation.

The fact that Halo Wars is a real-time strategy game (think Civilization) may be a turn off for many players. However, fans of the game will be happy to learn that battle management takes precedence over resource harvesting. That does not mean that economy plays no role in Halo Wars, but, true to its roots, the game is still focused on war, rather than building a civilization.

Hardcore gamers will appreciate the breadth and depth the game brings to the Halo universe. New units and machines are available, as well as old favorites. Players will also enjoy the fact that there is more than one Spartan; there are quite a few, actually. This may be one of the most exciting aspects of the game yet revealed.

Halo Wars - History in the Making?

By John W. Hall

While the Halo franchise has always been the stomping ground of first person shooter games, the latest installment is a departure from the norm. Halo Wars, set for release in early 2009 (February), will take the incredibly popular story and place it firmly within the confines of real-time strategy games.

Groans and moans have echoed across the US at the announcement, it seems as though Ensemble (Halo's developer), has gone to every length possible to enable console gamers to enjoy the game. RTS (real-time strategy) games have traditionally been the hallmark of PC systems, rather than console systems. However, Ensemble has created a radically different control system, enabling the gamer to navigate complex menus with the push of a single button, no keyboard or mouse required.

In addition, the new addition to the Halo lineup departs from traditional RTS games by not focusing exclusively on resource harvesting and management. While economy is obviously a part of the game, it is not the sole focus. Players must focus on winning battle strategy, as well as proper economics, in order to succeed.

Players will also be happy to find the addition of many more Spartans to the game, as well as new (or old, as the case may be) units. Battle rifles will not make an appearance in the game. Instead, units will rely on assault rifles and grenades to destroy the Covenant and Flood units they face. In addition, new aircraft, tanks and other units have been created that reflect the history of military development in the Halo universe.

The game is set to make history by drawing fans of the Halo series into the world of an RTS game. While non-gamers may not understand the significant difference, for hardcore gamers, it is extreme. If the developers can pull off this coup, the Halo franchise will be forever enshrined as shining example of what a popular title can accomplish with the right development. While Bungie is not the main developer of this iteration (they're lending help with the vast Halo canon but not game development), Ensemble seems more than capable of pulling off the attempt. The truth will be revealed in February 2009, when the sales of the game will stand for themselves.

Halo - Universe Expanding

By John W. Hall

The fourth installment of the game actually takes place in the past, at least according to game time. Set in 2531, 21 years before the events depicted in Halo: Combat Evolved. This prequel has several substantial differences that may just throw some gamers for a loop. Let's take a look at what's in store.

Halo has traditionally been a first person shooter; however, Halo Wars takes fans of the games into a real-time strategy game where they must control multiple units and actively engage in directing battles, rather than winning individual glory through one-on-one combat.

The game focuses on the crew of a single ship, Spirit of Fire, a CFV-88. The plot follows the discovery of Forerunner artifacts, as well as Sentinels and revolves around the first days after the discovery and engagement with the Covenant.

While the game play is significantly different, players will have the chance to try their hand at playing the Covenant. The Covenant is a group of allied alien races with disparate genetic makeup. The game designers drew on familiar human-world creatures to help them flesh out the Covenant creatures. Players will find avian, vulpine and many other familiar features facing them across the field of battle.

Halo Wars may also see the (rumored) debut of the Flood as a playable class. Rumors abound that the parasitic enemies of all life may make a playable debut, at least in some of the skirmish scenes of the game. For players leery of playing a RTS (real-time strategy) game, due to the limitations of the control systems, put your minds at ease. The latest reports of the game state that playing it with a controller is simpler than using a mouse and keyboard, which ensures that players are able to navigate their way through the various menus with consummate ease. The highly anticipated release of Halo Wars is set for February of 2009, and fans await expectantly.

Warhammer Online - General Information and Review

By Mads Vangsoe

Leveling: There are 3 different ways to level.

There is PvE experience which allows you to gain PvE levels. There are 40 PvE levels. You will find that it is quite easy, compared to other MMO's, to level in PvE, this is intentional. There is a HUGE emphasis on making the game "fun". PvE levels allow you to "buy"(Really cheap, there is no big coin need to buy PvE skills) skills and abilities. There is also special PvE skills and abilities that you gain depending upon which tree you pick to specialize in.(Each class has three different trees to specialize in) Always buy all PvE skills/abilities that you can, since there is no hurt in having them.

There is PvP experience, which allows you to gain PvP levels, this is called "Renown". There is a total of 80 PvP levels. PvP levels allow you to gain a few new skills, abilities, or attributes, depending on where you place your Renown points. You get 1 point for each Renown level you gain.

There is also "Influence" experience. This is separate from Renown and PvE experience. This is limited to a PQ area.(PQ = Public Quest) When you first start out there is only one PQ in the very lobie area. As you move up in levels and explore more of the world you will find other PQ's. There are three levels for each PQ, each level allows you to pick an item that you want. In the lobie areas the items are not that big of a deal, however after you hit about level ten, you will start finding PQ's that reward blue items, these are very decent! When you take part in a PQ, after the PQ is complete there will be a dice roll for loot. The more you contribute to the PQ the larger bonus you get to the roll. The top players get extra loot that they make pick from the end PQ treasure chest. Understand that after you hit the third level you get to pick a level one item, a level two item, and a level three item. If you only complete the first level, you can only pick a level one item from the NPC. After you reach level three of a PQ there is really NO reason to continue doing that areas PQ(s), as it is time to move on.(You cannot keep getting items after you pick that level's item)

Crafting: There was very limited crafting content in the closed/open/preview gameplay. This was also intentional in that the Devs did not want to give a lot of game info away. The crafting that was in the game is very easy and self explained in the "Tomb of Knowledge" think of this as an in game encyclopedia. I will give one example of a crafting skill. You can grow your own "seeds"(These drop from mobs, and some can also be purchased from merchants to get you started) You get a separate window to grow your own seeds. To start out with, you can only grow one seed at a time, however later, with levels, you will be able to grow up to four at a time. You can add water, a nutrient, and soil to give your plant a better chance to grow into something else besides a weed. After your plant grows you "loot" it. From this you can buy a vial and mix a potion. There are quite a few different potions you can make. There is even a tutorial to show you how to do this. This is not a long drawn out process, to just grow a seed takes a very short time.(Adding water, soil or a nutrient shortens this time.)

Gear: No you are not going to spends hours camping ANYTHING! Gear drops are common and you do get some trash loot that will give you more then enough coin to buy levels and items. Since you do NOT have to PvE at all in the game there are "Renown Gear Merchants". These merchants have average to awesome gear that you can buy pretty cheap, however you have to be a certain PvE level AND a certain PvP level to get them. The better the gear, the higher the level needed to buy the items. They do scale very well to your current level. With no problem at all I was fully geared out in "greens" by level ten on all classes. You will also be able to loot off enemy dead players in PvP! This does NOT come out of their inventory, however the vast majority of items are greens or better. So ALWAYS loot in PvP if you see the "sparklies" around an enemy dead player.

Areas: What if you are an orc and have a dark elf friend? From the very start of the game it will take you less then ten minutes to go join a friend in another area.(You need a very small amount of coin to "buy" a ride.) All the quests in all the areas can be completed by any race/class. Also do note that travel time is not some 30 minute trip on a flying mount, it takes about twelve seconds to fly to a new area.

I know that all this info sounds a little overwhelming, however you will catch on very quickly and you will see that the game was really designed to be FUN. Like PvP, then go PvP'ing. Tired of PvP'ing, go to a PQ and get some phat loot. Tired of PvP and PQ's go do PvE quests. Tired of PvP, PQ's and PvE questing, go do some crafting. So far in WAR I have never become bored, as I can always find something to do that is fun, and I say this having leveled over 160 times!

Warhammer Online - General Class Overview-Comparison-Info of the Destruction Classes

By Mads Vangsoe

Destruction classes:

I will be doing an in-depth guide on each class in Warhammer online later. Ratings are from my personal experience and rank from A to F, just like a school report card.

There are three starting racial areas:

Greenskins:

Black Orc = Melee Tank(Orc)

Shaman = Healer/Caster(Goblin)

Squig Herder = Ranged DPS - pet class(Goblin)

Chaos:

Marauder = Melee DPS - dual wield(Mutation)

Chosen = Melee Tank

Zealot = Healer/Caster

Magus = Ranged DPS/Caster - pet class

Dark Elves:

Witch Elf = Melee DPS - dual wield

Sorceress = Ranged DPS/Caster

Disciple of Khaine = Healer/Melee

Tanks:

Black Orc:

This is your melee tank in Warhammer online, special skill is a three combo attack. You use a "starter" skill to start your three skill combo, this opens up "da good plan" skills. You use a "da good plan" skill to progress the combo to "da best plan". After you use a skill from "da best plan" you then start over or use another ability.

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Da Brawler" this is for players going 2H.(Using a 2 handed weapon)

"Path of Da Toughest" this is for players going 1H weapon and shield.

"Path of Da Boss" this is for players that want to max out group skills, empowering other players in the group, or protecting them.

"Plays like": A typical "warrior" class.

Solo PvE = B+ You really have to do something stupid to die in PvE as a Black Orc.

Group PvE = C Average class in group, as long as you can hold agro.

Solo PvP = D Taking way too long to kill, most players will just ignore you and move on.

Group PvP = A With a healer you are almost unstoppable and will collapse enemy frontlines.

Chosen:

This is your other tank in Warhammer online, special ability is buffs. There are many buffs to choose from and these are "always on" until you die/zone/turn them off. You can only use one buff at a time.

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Strife" - this is for players going 2H

"Path of Retaliation" - this is for 1H and shield

"Path of Discord" - This for those that want to concentrate on the buff aspect of the class, usually adding to DPS or an ability.

"Plays like": kind of like a Paladin, not a WOW Pally, more of a DnD Pally.

Solo PvE = B Having a little more DPS then a Black Orc, but less survivability.

Group PvE = B Group buffs do make a difference.

Solo PvP = D Same problem as Black Orc.

Group PvP = B If you have a healer you do halfway decently.

Melee DPS:

Marauder:

This is a straight out DPS class in Warhammer online, specialty is mutation. Basically you are a dual wielder, you use a weapon in one hand and the other hand is a mutation weapon.

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Brutality" - This is for players that want max DPS against a single target.

"Path of Savagery" - This is for players doing better DPS with DOT's.

"Path of Monstrosity" - This is for players that want a little better defense and wanting to hit multiple targets.

"Plays like": This is rather a unique class, think of a dual wielding barbarian, better DPS then a tank, but less survivability.

Solo PvE = C+ Awesome one versus one, runs into problems with adds.

Group PvE = B Very good against anything but bosses.

Solo PvP = A- Except for tanks this eats everything, and eats quickly at that.

Group PvP = A Rips casters quickly and downs healers better then any other class.

Witch Elf:

This is your other melee DPS class in Warhammer online, and plays very differently from a Marauder. Specialty is a "point" system, build up points and release on a skill, the more points built up, the more damage or effect.

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Carnage" - This is for players that want straight out DPS right in the enemies face.

"Path of Suffering" - This is for players that want better DOT's.

"Path of Treachery" - This is for players that want to use tactics to do more DPS. You do a lot more damage hitting from the sides and back, but not so much face to face.

"Plays like": A typical rogue, including the WOW rogue.

Solo PvE = B+ a little better agro management then Marauder, but a little less raw DPS.

Group PvE = C+ Takes a few seconds more to build up the DPS then a Marauder.

Solo PvP = A You don't want to solo against this class, even healers will have problems.

Group PvP = B+ Must build up DPS, otherwise most classes are a cakewalk.

Ranged DPS:

Squig Herder:<7i>

Not using magic, but a bow and a mobile pet. Specialty is, of course, da Squig. Only one Squig can be out at a time. Total of 4 Squigs by level 10. Squigs are basic, horned, (better melee) ranged, spiked.(hard melee) The Squig is a little tricky to play, if you specialize in ranged DPS you get a slightly gimped ranged pet. Specialize in melee you get the "so-so" horned Squig. Specialize in versatility, you get slightly gimped damage, but a strong pet. You can also summon a Squig and jump inside it, but it has been my experience that it is not that great in PvE or PvP.(This is called "Squig Armor")

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Big Shootin" - better ranged DPS, slightly gimped ranged Squig.

"Path of Quick Shootin" - slightly gimped DPS, but the best melee DPS Squig.

"Path of stabbin" - so-so damage and a so-so melee Squig.

"plays like": This is another unique class, it will greatly depend on your tree choice. Do you want to focus on yourself, the pet, or a little of both?

Solo PvE = A Easy walkthrough in regular PvE.

Group PvE = C- Average damage, does not really bring anything unique to the group.

Solo PvP = C As long as you stay out of range you will do "O.K."

Group PvP = A+ You are not a healer, caster, or tank, so you are almost always ignored in group PvP, this allows you to sit back and shoot away. You don't need heals as you are always out of range, so you actually help healers. You can always send your pet against an enemy healer/caster to be a pain in the butt for the enemy.(When one Squig dies, you can summon a different class Squig in two seconds.)

Sorcerer:

This is your pure DPS caster in Warhammer online, of course this is going to come at a price. Specialty is a "power pool". This pool builds up as you cast spells, and when it is full, you can release it and cause massive damage. The problem is that most spells you cast have a small percentage to cause "backlash" which actually damages you. You can release all the power built up at any time before it is full if you wish. The problem is that the more you let your power build up, the better critical percent and the better bonus to critical damage the spell will deal, however the percent that a "backlash" will happen is also increased. If you have a healer that knows what he/she is doing this is not too bad, however if you don't you can actually one shot yourself!

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Agony" - This is for players that want to concentrate on a single target at a time, and you do not have to worry "too much" about killing yourself.

"Path of Calamity" - This is for players that want hardcore DOT's and is actually safer then the Path of Agony.

"Path of Destruction" - This is for players that like to go "balls to the wall" and hit many targets at the same times for awesome damage, the drawback is that you also have the greatest chance to face plant right into the ground, because you used more power then you could handle and you killed yourself.

"plays like": An overpowered mage. However you are not really overpowered, because you threaten and damage yourself.

Solo PvE = C+ sometimes when you do get backlash you need to chill out a little, if this happens at the wrong time or you are not paying attention to your health, it really hurts.

Group PvE = A Have fun and nuke everything.

Solo PvP = C With low health and you must stay at range, this can get you in trouble.

Group PvP = A+ With a decent healer you can force whole groups to think twice about advancing. When facing noobs, I have seen whole groups back up when a ranged AOE spell is cast.

Magus:

This is really an odd class in warhammer online to play as your pet is stationary and you must choose at what range you want to cause the most damage: Long range, medium range or close range. Your specialty is summoning stationary demons. You do not outright nuke as a sorcerer does, yet your DPS is not exactly gimped. This class is very situational.

The three skill trees are:

"Path of the Havoc" - Concentrating on long range attacks against a single target with a pink horror.

"Path of Changing" - Concentrating on medium range decent attacks using a flamer demon.

'Path of Demonology" - Concentrating on short range decent AOE attacks using a blue horror.

"plays like": Nothing I have played before, as such this class does take awhile to get used too.

Solo PvE = A+ Easily dropping mobs as you can summon a blue horror and pull mobs to it

Group PvE = B+ As long as you are not moving around too much you do well.

Solo PvP = F Forget it.

Group PvP = B+ Excels at guarding flags or areas. Sometimes noobs will even attack your pet not understanding that if they just killed you with your low hit points the pet would die anyway.

Healer:

Shaman:

Of all ten classes this one seems to be slightly OP in Warhammer online. (OP = Overpowered) A Shaman has decent healing abilities and awesome DPS for a healer class. Specialty is "WAAAGH!" which is actually almost useless. Basically when you cast a heal spell it slightly increases your next damage spell, this effect stacks up to three times. So if you cast three heal spells and then cast a damage spell it ends up being an empowered damage spell. Same as if you cast three damage spells and then cast a heal spell, your heal spell will be empowered. The problem here is that there is no sane individual that is going to sit there and count every time they cast a spell. I would advise to simply write this specialty off as a slight bonus that you do NOT need to keep track of, if you need to damage then damage, if you need to heal, then heal.

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Mork" For those players that want to play a hardcore healer.

"Path of Gork" For those players that want to put out DPS and heal later.

"Path of Da Green" For those players that want a balance between the two.(Also increases buffs)

"plays like": A cleric in old school DAOC, go heal or go smite, or gimp yourself and try to do both.

Solo PvE = C+ you might take a little longer to kill in PvE, however your rarely die.

Group PvE = A Very versatile, you can heal or DPS.

Solo PvP = A+ Don't even try to solo an equal level Shaman.

Group PvP = A+ Massive heal or above average DPS, you can choose and simply change your mind with the click of the button.

Zealot:

This class is a lot better healer then it is at DPS in warhammer online, you will commonly be targeted and hunted down, however you have AWESOME survival skills. Specialty is group buffs, only one can be used at a time but it effects the whole group and they are usually very decent.

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Alchemy" For hardcore healers.

"Path of Ritual" For those that enjoy buffing and debuffing.

"Path of Witchcraft" For those that wish to try and DPS.

"plays like": This is another unique class, wearing paper and low hit points, but awesome heals and group buffs.

Solo PvE = C weak DPS, but great survivability.

Group PvE = A+ really excels at healing and buffs.

Solo PvP = D Just cannot cause enough damage solo, to be viable.

Group PvP = A As long as you keep ranged, you will be a great healing asset.

Disciple of Khaine:

This class is a dual wielding/healer type and plays rather oddly in warhammer online. You cannot out-heal a Shaman or Zealot, yet you can off-heal and do decent melee damage. The specialty is rather odd, you have a "pool" of healing that depletes as you heal, however when you melee, it replenishes. This means that you cannot sit back and hardcore heal, however you are more then suitable for average melee fights. When you do fight, you replenish your healing pool.

The three skill trees are:

"Path of Ritual" For better healing abilities.

"Path of Torture" For better melee skills.

"Path of Sacrifice" This is a balance between the two.

"plays like": A very unique class that will take awhile to get used too, however this class does excel if played correctly.

Solo PvE = B+ When PvE'ing this plays like a gimped Witch Elf that can heal herself.

Group PvE = A Very flexible as long as you maintain at least a little melee combat.

Solo PvP = C+ While you cannot greatly heal, you do have average melee skills which makes you a very hard target to kill.

Group PvP = D Because of the complexity of the class it is hard to figure with action is the best to take in the chaos of group versus group PvP.

Nintendo Wii "Backyard Baseball" Review

By Camilla Bertelsen

The latest version of Backyard Baseball 2009 was just released by Atari to take advantage of the Nintendo Wii Video game Controls. The wide and varied style of pitches and types of baseball hits manage to come truly well with the Nintendo Wii Wiimote. One only has to flick the Wiimote to hit the ball and use the Nintendo Wii nunchuk for on-base advancement.

The video game comes in six game modes. You can chose between quick play, a pickup game, tournament play, season play, a home run derby and an all-star game. There are several sub options within each game mode as well. For example, in season play, you can be a coach and do what a "real" coach can do.

To play the video game, use the directional pad as a batter for the type of swing you want. Next flick the Wiimote to take the swing. As in real life, timing is crucial. Hit the ball right and you be rewarded with an adrenalin rush! Miss it and it's a Strike Out for you! And if you want to use a special hit or pitch, you have to use both the Wiimote and nunchuk. Use the "Z" button to call up the menu for the special hit or pitch. However, you can only have these option enabled in the video game when you scored enough points.

Overall the game feel is reasonable and entertaining. Audio include some baseball sound and commentary from Sunny Day and Jack Fouler wannabes. The 3D graphics are not too bad in itself...sporting some Japanese stadium themes. I would say it appeal to kids of all ages but if you wish for a more fulfilling baseball experiences then this Nintendo Wii version of backyard baseball is not for you. So long as you don't expect the moon and the sun you be fine with this video game.

Atari could actually had done more to improve the game feel using the Nintendo Wii game control system. We are talking here about THE generation of video game playing using the Wii Mote. The realism and immersion currently is as close as it can get to the real thing before virtual reality. So far no game company had yet to fully capitalize on the Nintendo Wii control system.

Warcraft Riches by Derek Beachler Review

By Sam Bateman

If you have been doing any searches on the internet for World of Warcraft Gold Guides, I'd be willing to bet you have heard of Warcraft Riches by Derek Beachler before. Warcraft Riches is one the hottest guides on the market, and it has been for a while now.

Warcraft Riches covers all of the correct strategies and concepts that are the most efficient for getting you out there and making tons of WoW Gold. I really enjoyed the way Derek Beachler had set up Warcraft Riches. It is in PDF format, like most of the World of Warcraft Gold Guides, but it has a separate PDF for every single section. When you have as much information as is needed for one of these guides, organization becomes very important.

A couple of pretty cool bonuses are included in Warcraft Riches as well. The Bonus Fishing Guide is actually one of the best sections of the whole guide. This is because there were actually many diagrams and maps included, which always helps a lot. The other bonus is a Profession Leveling Guide, which you could honestly do without.

The main thing that I felt was a let down about the guide is that it was not very detailed. It was packed full of information and had all the right concepts, but they were not explained as thorough as they truly need to be. There was also a heavy emphasis on grinding. I know a lot of people spend a heck of a lot of time grinding, but I hate to waste my time doing that. It is good to occasionally go out and just kill stuff, but it never lasts long for me. I prefer going to the Auction House and actually using my brain and doing something that believe it or not, takes a little skill to do good at. Not saying I am great at the Auction House, but after using the techniques I learned from all the guides I read, I got pretty darn good and can make a quick profit whenever I feel like it.

Overall, Warcraft Riches just doesn't have what it takes to be number one. I loved that all the right concepts were there, but I was just disappointed that the details were not there to get you out and making tons of gold quick. The emphasis on grinding was also a definite negative aspect also. It is in no way a bad World of Warcraft Gold Guide; with a little bit more knowledge you can figure out the methods that are mentioned by Warcraft Riches, but who wants to spend money on something that gets them halfway there?

Game Reviews

By Jonathan Blocker

When you are deciding on which free Internet games to play, you might choose to read some game reviews of the particular free online games and Flash games that you are considering. Game reviews can be useful in helping you narrow down your choices of which games to play, but sometimes they can come with some pitfalls that you might want to avoid.

Although you like to play free games such as Pac Man, Battleship and Tetris on your computer, you likely do not have a lot of extra time to read reviews, because that is time that you could be spending playing the games instead of reading about them. But even so, there are certain aspects that you are looking for when you read a game review. To be respectful of your time, hopefully the author of the review will be concise, and the review will be to the point focusing in on what you want to hear. The point of any review is whether or not the game is any good and why.

Some reviews, you will notice, use a number system which provides an at-a-glance rating for the game being reviewed. But in order for this to be informative for you, you will likely have to read several reviews for games you are familiar with, and see what number they got and if that matches with the number you would give it if you were rating it. Then you will begin to see how closely the written reviews match the number ascribed to it, and how closely they match your particular preferences.

By reading several reviews of games that you already know well, you will also be able to determine if the reviewer really knows the game. The reviewer will hopefully have played the game at several levels so he or she is well-versed with all aspects of the particular game. This will help ensure that you will get a useful analysis when you read a review for a game new to you.

There are several online sites that offer game reviews. Although no longer in publication in a hard copy format, Computer Gaming World Magazine is archived at the Computer Gaming World Museum, and contains articles and reviews concerning online games. 8dimensional.com offers a game review index featuring thousands of online game reviews. Gamespot.com offers a fairly extensive review portion on their site. You simple choose "pc," and they will take you to your particular game's reviews. At the beginning of the review it gives a very brief overview of the reviewer's impression of the game, along with a numerical score. It then gives, quickly, the good and bad aspects of the game. After this, it provides a more in-depth review, with pictures from the game in question along with the reviewer's commentary. If used wisely, reviews of Free Online Games can be helpful in aiding your decision to play a game or not.

NCAA Football 08 Video Game Review

By Jason Ohler

NCAA 08 did not get many new features this season, but it is still a great game for the XBOX 360 and Playstation. If you are familiar with this football game series and are looking for something new then you will probably be disappointed. NCAA 08 is an excellent game, but if you own NCAA 07 there is not very much in the way of change for the new version. The Game play is the same and the graphics are very tight, just like last year's version. So, the best thing to do is talk about the new features of NCAA 08 that were not included in last year's version.

At first look dynasty mode looks and feels the same, but there are a few minor tweaks. The biggest change to dynasty mode is off the field in recruiting. Recruiting new players in NCAA 08 has a much more hands on feel to it this season. First, you will select thirty five players to focus on, rank the players in order of importance, and call them on the phone to establish a relationship. The interest aspect about this phase of recruiting is you need to be careful of the conversation you have with each recruit. Your school is ranked, so you will need to pick topics that closely match your school the players interest. An icon will indicate if the player is buying your speech or not, pretty cool feature. Another feature of recruiting is after you have established a relationship with a player over the phone, you will then want to schedule a campus visit. You will need to select activities for this player that match their interest to get the player interested in your school. As you can see, the recruiting phase of NCAA 08 is much more involved this season.

Campus legend mode was added to the XBOX 360 and Playstation three versions this season. First, pick you position and school. Once you have picked position and school you will play in the state's high school playoffs. You are motivated to do well because at the end of the game you will be offered a scholarship to a school. Most of the time if you pick a top 25 school you will have to work your way up the depth chart, but this really easily done by attending practice and you can attain the number 1 spot in a matter of weeks. The one aspect about the campus mode that I don not like is that you can only control plays in which your player is involved. This can be frustrating in two ways. The camera only focuses on your player, so you can not always see the entire field. Second, you are not the coach, so you do not get to select how many plays you will be involved in.

Overall NCAA 08 is a great football video game for the next generation systems. Compared to NCAA 07 this game adds the features that were missing from the game last season.

2K Sports All Pro Football 2K8 Review

By Jason Ohler

If you a football video game player like myself, then this review will give you and inside scoop on the newly released All Pro Football 2K8 from 2K Sports. I have played this football series, since the series began, when it was released on the Sega Dreamcast.

I will start by pointing out some of the good aspects of All Pro Football. The best part of this new football game is the game play. If you have played any versions of the 2k football series, than you will not be disappointed with the way the game plays. I was able to put the game in the XBOX 360 and start playing without having to learn a new button scheme. The actual game play itself is superb. The players move in a very realistic way on the field and do not seem as though they are floating on ice. Another great feature of All Pro Football is the ability to change your team uniforms into any variation of colors and you can even change the little things on jerseys. Even the way the numbers look on the jerseys are adjustable. Game play is probably the best feature of this game.

Now, for the bad aspects of All Pro Football 2K8. Obviously, the series does not have the NFL license, so it does take away from the feel of the game even though there are players from the past. When this game was first announced, I did not think that would be a big deal, but when you start playing the game it really does bother you. Also, the graphics are not up to par, considering this is a next generation football game for the XBOX 360. The graphics are choppy, when the scene changes from one scene to the next. Also, some of the graphics look rigid. For example, when you are behind center and looking up the field, the sidelines look jagged not smooth and straight, like they should be. Another problem with All Pro Football 2K8 is the lack of a franchise mode. Basically you can play one season and then repeat the same season.

This game is not great, but good and if you are a fan of the 2K football series you will love the game play. Overall this game is pretty good and I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. All Pro Football 2K8 is a good starting point for future 2K football games.

Stuntman Ignition Game Review

By Jamie Fleming

Stuntman: Ignition is the sequel to the original Stuntman which was published back in 2002 by Atari who later sold the rights to the new publishers THQ. This newest game consists of six movies, each with six scenes. The way you complete tasks are set out a little differently than the first installment. The basic player will be able to drive through all the levels completing all of the director's stunts to progress onto further levels. However more advanced players will try to link or "string" stunts together to increase his/her stunt multiplier. Also there is now a strike system which tells you how stunts you've missed out. If you miss 5 you're have to reshoot, don't worry it tells you. If you're finding it hard you can always go for easy mode which gives you 8 strikes although you do get less points.

The game graphics are reasonably good and the game is also quite easy to use as the controls are simple once you've figured them out. The tasks can be hard but get more exciting as the game goes on. Once you have completed a scene, you will be rated out of 5 stars. It can be hard to get 5 stars as for this you have to "string it" which means the player must string the director stunts with other maneuvers as well like getting close to objects, drifting around corners or being airborne for example.

THQ have also kept the Stunt Constructor allowing you to create your own exciting stunt arena's. As with the first Stuntman the better you do in the movies the more objects and vehicles you get for the stunt constructor. The Constructor Challenges are also back with Easy, Tough and Insane.

THQ have also introduced "MultiClash" which includes Backlot Races, Backlot Battles and Stunt Tournies. With this feature you can challenge your friends to see who is the best stuntman.

We would definately recommend this game as it is fun to play and if you liked the first Stuntman you will love Stuntman: Ignition.

World of Warcraft Gold Strategies - Free Tips And Reviews!

By Tyrone McArhtur

If you play World of Warcraft you know that everything, from strength to health depends on gold, either directly or indirectly. Amount of gold also has a direct impact on levelling and joining guilds!

Instead of wasting you money on buying gold from some shady gold-seller you should try to optimize your gameplay to make as much gold as possible at any certain aspect of the game.

The basic idea is to play smarter, not harder. If you have the right strategy, you could probably make 4-5 times more gold in the same time you are playing right now. Just imagine, instead of making 25 gold per hour you could be making more than 100 gold per hour. Remember that this is in no way impossible on the contrary it is easy if you just know what to do.

I only recommend legal gold making strategies. It is a to risky business to use any of the cheats, you may get booted. Also, buying gold jeopardizes your account.

Below is a few tips that will get you started:

- Get the best gold making guide! Believe me you will not get those tips in a free place on the web. I have been playing for almost 2 full years and I thought I had this figured out. After getting a gold guide (Valkor's) I started to quadruple my income in 2 days.

- Search for NPC humanoids, they have a high drop rate and they often drop goodies!

- Skinning is a great profession if you want to make gold. Kill a creature, skin it and earn both experience and gold.

- Mining is also a great profession for gold making. Some places are flooded with mineral veins. You either sell smelted minerals or the raw material. Find out which pays best!

- Fishing is also a great profession for gold making. Everybody needs to eat!

- Make sure that the gold guide you get holds a lot of information regarding the auction house because mastering this will make you lots of gold.

- Keep an eye on the prices at the auction house. If an item is high in demand, you will get a better price for this particular item.

Ok, now you know the basics of making gold. Remember that the best strategies are presented in detail in the best gold guides. A gold guide is very inexpensive and if your routine is to buy gold, this investment will pay back many times!

After playing World Of Warcraft for a couple of years I thought that I had the gold making part figured out but after I got my hands on Valkors gold guide I understood that I was leaving gold on the table for others to take. Welcome To The Golden Realm!

Virtua Fighter 5 Review - A More Realistic Fighting Game

By Sayed Islam

Virtua Fighter 5 is yet another video game based in the fighting genre, but this game is different from Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. The game is available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In terms of the storyline, the game is about the Fifth World Fighting Tournament.

There is something about a perverse organization known as J6 and their malicious intentions. A woman named Vanessa is taken hostage by J6. Vanessa is rescued by someone, and J6 intends to find out who set her free. As a result, the Fifth World Fighting Tournament ensues. I must admit the plot in the game is convoluted.

Fighting games have a propensity to bypass the storyline, and this game is no exception to that rule. Virtua Fighter is the premier fighting franchise that is currently on the market. The game has so much more depth that games such as Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter just do not seem to offer. With that said, Virtua Fighter 5 is not any ordinary fighting game.

The gameplay has a comprehensive designed fighting system that works well. I thought this game has the most superlative fighting schemes ever assembled. The gameplay makes the fighting seem challenging but not to the point where it is cumbersome. Virtua Fighter 5 has a fighting mechanic that does require some time to master; furthermore, gamers are not going to learn everything in one day.

There is an arcade mode that can be easily completed in a short amount of time; however, the arcade mode is not the true bulk of the game. A grand total of 17 playable characters are available in the game, and they all have various fighting techniques. All of the fighter have their own personal distinct attacks that they can perform. The combination maneuvers do need some time to fully digest, but it is time that is well spent.

Virtua Fighter 5 has the usual mundane aspects that is prevalent in countless other games in the same genre. For example, there are succinct moves that are lighting quick and lengthy moves that are powerful. Moreover, a bevy of these actions entail consummate timing. Fortunately, there are counterattacks in combat that alter the momentum of a fight. All of the characters in the game have their pros and cons, so no one fighter is dominate over the other fighter. The game does an exemplary job of keeping things fresh by having balance to the gameplay.

Quest mode is where a great deal of the gameplay will transpire. The quest mode itself pits you against other fighters, and your fighter progresses with each victory. After you win a fight, you earn money that you can spend on numerous accessories and outfits. A gripe I had with the game was where the fights occur. The environments themselves look incredible, but the environments lack the versatility when compared to a game like Dead or Alive 4.

You can go from level to level in Dead or Alive 4 with a slick and stylish fashion, but you are stuck with a rudimentary arena ring in Virtua Fighter 5. Rather than rolling the dice and taking a chance, the game developers decided to heir on the side of caution about the level design. Regrettably, the artificial intelligence in this game is bizarrely dreadful. Any gamer can pulverize opponents even at the most highest difficulty setting with ease.

The audio in the game has its flaws as well. There are actual commentators that will "commentate" on the fight or at least try to commentate. I thought the commentating was unintentionally facetious. None of the voices are very well acted, and they are all ludicrous. Sure, it may provide a quality chuckle here and there. But the novelty wears thin after approximately an hour of gameplay. The graphics in the game are flabbergasting.

All of the animations, character models, and environments look brilliant. The online multiplayer is an immensely dialed down version of a standard fighting game. Yes, there are matches that can be played online. Nonetheless, there is no tournament mode via online. That is not much of an innovative multiplayer online gaming experience. Overall, Virtua Fighter 5 has flaws with the audio and plot. Nevertheless, the sheer amount of fighting styles to master will be greatly appreciated.

final verdict 8.5 out of 10

Uncharted - Drake's Fortune Review

By Sayed Islam

Sony has had a somewhat arduous year with the PlayStation 3 in 2007. Much of this is due in part of exclusives like Halo 3, Mass Effect, and BioShock going to the Xbox 360. This is exacerbated by the fact that Sony is losing exclusive rights to games such as Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5, and Grand Theft Auto IV. Furthermore, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been delayed until the year 2008. Many gamers thought that Sony was done and should bow down to Microsoft; however, the PlayStation 3 has injected new life into Sony recently.

After the PlayStation 3 price reduction down to $400, the sales of PlayStation 3's have increased. Moreover, there are PlayStation 3 exclusives such as Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank: Future Tools of Destruction that are worth playing. Luckily, things are finally looking bright for Sony. Sony appears to be on the right track and heading in the right direction. This is conspicuously seen from their biggest PlayStation 3 game this 2007 holiday season in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

The storyline in this game revolves around Nathan Drake and his allies. They are on a quest for a treasure; consequently, they get lost in an island in the Pacific Ocean. Now, Nathan and his acquaintances have every intention to escape from this retched island because they are being chased by deadly mercenaries. Naughty Dog definitely delivers the goods when it comes to the storyline. The plot is compelling and is not as predictable as some games might be. The gameplay has aspects from a typical third person shooter with a twist. This twist being that you will be doing more than gunning down adversaries.

Gamers will have to play through some fairly unique platform jumping elements as well. There is a peek around the corner technique that is eerily similar to Gears of War. Mr. Drake can utilize cover by putting his back against the wall and squatting down. Blindfiring is also another gameplay mechanic that was heavily influenced from a game like Gears of War. This is of course when you are hiding behind cover and firing without exposing yourself. The platform jumping is analogous to a game like Prince of Persia. Drake does not seem athletic, but looks can be deceiving. He can perform the most acrobatic maneuvers when he is airborne.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune boasts stunning visuals across the board. The textures are clean, and the flora is grandiose. Lighting and architecture are just a few of many things that are amazing in this game. In addition to the gunfire, there is a few moments in the game where Nathan can use his arms and legs in combat. The pro of correctly executing a combination attack is more ammunition, but the con is that failing will net you nothing in return and a loss of health. There is nothing too extravagant about the weapons in the game. They range from the rudimentary handguns to the explosive grenades. Drake can also traverse his way through the environment with his mobility. He knows how to climb large obstacles, swing across a gap by using a rope, and jump from one ledge to another ledge with ease. The controls are responsive and never deter players from enjoying the game. Replenishing health is done simply by standing still and waiting (ala Gears of War).

Fortunately, all of Drake's actions are easily done. The only two flaws with the game are the animations and length. There were occasional sequences where foes do not exactly act accordingly after they are hit. This resulted in awkward and unrealistic physics. Opponents will not perform the electric slide, but it was odd to see an enemy fly around in a eccentric manner. Another gripe with the game is the nine hour length. A game that succinct needs more gameplay. Even though the game is concise, the gameplay itself is engrossing. The audio in the game really made the plot come together. Voice acting is superb and not over the top. The sound of Drake reloading his gun has a tactile feel to it. Water falling down to the ground have a different sounding fluctuation to them.

Overall, there is no doubt that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is the best PlayStation 3 exclusive that PlayStation 3 owners will greatly admire. The intriguing storyline overrides the few minor glitches in the game.

Final Verdict: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a very good game.

TimeShift Review - Not The Best First Person Shooter

By Sayed Islam

What would you do if you had the power to control time? That is the question that will be answered in TimeShift. TimeShift is a first person shooter video game that is available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows. The storyline in the game revolves around time travel. Scientists are developing a way to travel through time. Aiden Krone becomes corrupt with greed and wants this time travel technology all to himself. He travels to the past in an effort to formulate his own personal agenda. As a result, the protagonist is sent to the past to thwart Aiden's nefarious plan. The plot in the game attempts to add variety to an unoriginal premise, but it fails miserably.

In terms of gameplay, gamers can manipulate time in various ways. You are presented with a combat suit that has the capability to reverse, stop, and slow time (ala Max Payne, FEAR, and Stranglehold) altogether. When players strive to alter time, they are shown a meter at the top right corner of the screen. This meter signifies how long they can adjust time. After the meter depletes, you are unable to utilize the time abilities. Waiting for the meter to replenish is the best course of action at that point in time (no pun intended). Gamers can accomplish all sorts of tricks with that handy suit. For example, slowing down time will make an adversary as immobile as a cow. As the game is in slow motion, you can pilfer weapons from opponents with ease or simply shoot at them. Furthermore, you can use the slow motion effect to perform evasive maneuvers such as dodge incoming enemy fire. When the game slows down, foes that are equipped with jetpacks are drastically less arduous to defeat. For instance, a missile can be blown up with a grandiose explosion without too much trouble. Things are just plain more gratifying to watch when they are broken down frame by frame. The enemy artificial intelligence is challenging. They will go from cover to cover, and they will do their best in flanking you (ala Gears of War).

The precociousness of the opponents themselves are somewhat offset by the time skills you possess. A great junk of the gameplay entails you to activate a time power and pulverize foes in the game with ammunition. In a nutshell, this is intrinsically a rinse and repeat gameplay tactic that suppresses the difficulty in the game. Once the time meter is exhausted, you can just wait for the meter to refill within four or five seconds. The other two attributes in the game about stopping and rewinding time are primarily used for light puzzle solving. One puzzle might require you to stop time in order get to a specific location. Another puzzle will have you rewind time to ascend on an elevator. The puzzles are rudimentary and can be completed with little to no effort. I felt like the puzzles were just like an afterthought the game developers decided to put together for no apparent reason. Integrating time powers to resolve puzzles seemed fine, but none of the puzzles are ludicrous. There is no logical explanation as to why there are puzzles in this video game at all.

The gameplay is not the best among first person shooters; however, I thought it was still engrossing. The graphics in the game are brilliant. Visually, the soldier models are represented in a fairly realistic manner. There is an amazing amount of attention to detail with the physics and blood in the game. Moreover, the online multiplayer is unique enough too keep players interested. In total, there are 14 playable maps. The online multiplayer plays differently from the single player mode. There are time grenades that replace the time meter in the top left corner of the screen. This adds some depth to the gameplay. Overall, TimeShift is a game that is not necessarily the best nor most original first person shooter. Nonetheless, the game does have its moments.

Final Verdict: 7 out of 10

Naruto - Rise of Ninja Review

By Sayed Islam

Believe it! An absurd blonde hair style and tattered orange clothing could signify only one thing: Naruto.

Naruto: Rise of Ninja is an Xbox 360 exclusive video game that features the eccentric Naruto. This game comes from the same video game company that was responsible for games like Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. Since the game takes numerous aspects from the television show, the plot in the game parallels the television show.

Gamers will have an opportunity to witness the Hidden Leaf Village and view scenery that is eerily reminiscent to the cartoon. The gameplay in this game is a combination of both role playing and action. Players will comprehend how to talk to other civilians, bolster attributes, buy equipment and accessories, and accomplish mission objectives. At the beginning of the game, Naruto is somewhat of an outcast. He wants to become a Hokage, but Naruto fails miserably.

In an effort to strengthen his self-esteem, he seeks to lend a helping hand to others in need of assistance. When you progress through the game, more and more pedestrians will admire your performance. There are two mission types in the game. One type is the core objectives that further the storyline, and the others are the optional side quests. The majority of the gameplay in the game entails platform jumping and fighting. Both the fighting and platform jumping elements in the game are done in a cohesive fashion. For instance, the combat emulates the Jutsu maneuvers that are prevalent in the cartoon. These techniques include summoning an attractive woman and cloning himself.

The techniques varies depending on the characters on the screen. The fight sequences range from the rudimentary button presses to some fairly intricate button combinations that require timing. Moreover, there certain attacks that can only be performed based on the distance of the foes and the situation. This game has a well rounded fighting scheme that is engrossing. The platform jumping segments in the game are also well balanced. Naruto: Rise of Ninja is a challenging game that does not treat gamers like they are a bunch of immature children. The game does have its arduous moments, but they can be easily overcome with perseverance.

I felt like the game developers were paying an homage to previous games in this same genre. In addition to the main gameplay, there are some mini games to play. For example, Naruto can partake in a racing mini game that tests his running ability. All of the skills that you will master is given at just the most opportune time. The game does a fantastic job of pacing you through the gameplay by keeping you interested throughout. There is the enormous gratification of defeating a boss and the disappointment of losing to an opponent.

Naruto: Rise of Ninja does not skimp on the amount of content either. This game should take approximately fifteen hours to finish from start to end. There is some online multiplayer that incorporates a Tournament mode, and it even tracks statistics for players via Xbox Live. However, the Xbox Live online support is not the true bulk of the game. The graphics in the game does an accurate job of representing the tone of the cartoon.

All of the architecture has a Japanese appearance to them, and the environments are representative of the television show. Cel-shading was used in this game as well as it was in games such as X-Men Legends and X-Men Legends 2. Gamers will actually feel like they are immersed in an episode of Naruto. It is just a breathe of fresh air to see something different from the typical next generation visuals the Xbox 360 has to offer. The audio in the game is about as grandiose as the graphics. You will hear all the characters from the cartoon reprising their roles in this game, and the music added some personality the gameplay. Overall, Naruto: Rise of Ninja might not necessarily be for everyone. Nevertheless, avid enthusiasts of Naruto will be entertained.

Final Verdict: Naruto: Rise of Ninja is a good game.

Kane & Lynch - Dead Men Review

By Sayed Islam

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men comes from the creators who introduced the Hitman franchise. The game is currently available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the PC. In terms of storyline, the game follows Kane and Lynch. Kane is a mercenary, and Lynch is a lunatic who is on strong medication. They manage to meet each other and plan on working together for a big pay day.

This game definitely has an amazing plot that will entertain anyone. There is no doubt that the sequence of events is the selling point in the game. Kane and Lynch are two gritty characters that have undesirable pasts. Since the game made by the same core group that worked on the Hitman games, expect a great deal of twists and turns. IO Interactive is notorious for games that bolster the blood by decreasing the ammunition being fired (ala Hitman). This game is a dark crime drama that will keep gamers intrigued. The protagonists in the game are not exactly the stereotypical heroes. Kane is on a journey to save his daughter, and the aforementioned Lynch has habitual drug problems.

Violence and foul language are two things that are immensely mundane in this game. It makes sense because that is the type of tone the game developers had in mind. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is told via two methods. One method is through the use of actual gameplay footage, and the second method is done via cut scenes. Both methods work extraordinarily well and do a brilliant job of complementing each other. The gameplay deals with heists, robberies, gunfights, and so much more. In addition, the game plays eerily similarly to countless other games in the same third person shooter genre. Players will have their usual assortment of weapons that entail handguns, machine guns, shotguns, and grenades. There is even some melee attacks that you can execute that will terminate your adversaries. As a matter of fact, many aspects of the gameplay in this game is clearly inspired from a game like Gears of War. For example, you can rejuvenate your health by waiting and having patience. Blind firing while using cover and swinging out of the corner while taking shots are all available.

Furthermore, gamers can even go into manual aiming mode that allows for more accurate headshots. The little things in the game make it stand out more than the other elements in the gameplay. For instance, there is real dialogue that is spoken during the loading screens and a near death experience when you are on the verge of dying. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men gives a gratifying feel to the action sequences. All of the guns will have a realistic recoil that gives more authenticity to the guns. Shooting a machine gun with short controlled bursts will provide better accuracy; conversely, holding down the fire button will drastically diminish your accuracy. The game also has a two player cooperative multiplayer mode that enables both Kane and Lynch to complete the game. Regrettably, there is no online cooperative multiplayer.

Nonetheless, there is an engrossing online multiplayer that has an original take. Players have the option to work as a cohesive unit, stab their teammates in the back, or seek vengeance for being betrayed. The multiplayer was definitely one of the most unique features in the game. Ally and enemy artificial intelligence is somewhat average. Yes, your allies might revive you when you die. Your teammates will also act accordingly after you issue a command to them. However, there are instances when they die at an alarming rate for absurd reasons. Likewise, the same rule applies to the foes.

Occasionally, it is arduous to discern when your character in actually protected by cover. The graphics in the game are not exactly next generation. It appears that many of the character models were a mildly enhanced adaptation of a PlayStation 2 game. Fortunately, the audio in the game more than makes up for the lack of polish in the visuals department. There is no such thing as a spectacular plot without incredible voice acting. Luckily, this game has both of those going for it. Even with the gratuitous profanity, all of the lines of dialogue are fantastic. An excellently written script coupled with exemplary voice acting is a recipe for success. Overall, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men might be a game for gamers with an acquired taste. Nevertheless, the game is certainly worth experiencing.

Clive Barker's Jericho Review - Nothing Groundbreaking

By Sayed Islam

Clive Barker's Jericho is a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC video game that comes from the warped mind of none other than Clive Barker himself. He is notorious for his books and movies that are based around the horror genre. Now, he is attempting to make a successful transition into video games. The storyline in the game revolves around a city known as Al Khali and the Jericho team. Al Khalid is the location that uncanny and inexplicable events are an everyday occurrence. These ineffable supernatural reports are due to demons and fiends that inhabit Al Khalid.

The protagonist in the game is Captain Devin Ross, and he is the leader of team Jericho. The plot may seem like an unsolvable jigsaw puzzle, but I still appreciated it. It had twist and turns that will keep any gamer guessing until the bitter end. Speaking of bitter ending, the epilogue was a bit of a disappointment. In regards to the gameplay, the game plays like any other ordinary first person shooter with a emphasis on the word ordinary. You can issue commands to your other people in your group. The various people in your squad are Sergeant Delgado, Lieutenant Black, Church, and Jones. They all have their pros and cons; furthermore, each character has different attributes and weapons. For instance, Sergeant Delgado is equipped with a gun. Lieutenant Black is armed with a sniper rifle and a grenade launcher. Church possesses a sword and machine gun. Jones prefers to use a shotgun. In addition to the weapons, there are numerous abilities that you have at your disposal. For example, Captain Ross has the power to heal. The gameplay has its moments by keeping the style of the game fresh at certain moments. Lieutenant Black can use telekinesis, Jones can use mind control, and Church knows how to use magic.

The variety of the other characters is the only thing that makes this game different from other video games in the same genre. Just about every enemy in the game looks grotesque. They will have nails attached to their bodies and other sharp objects. If you have seen a horror movie before, then all of the frightening aspects of the game are foreseeable. Maybe I found it to be predictable because I already seen countless scary games. Moreover, there is nothing fancy in this game. The artificial intelligence across the board is imperfect. Your teammates will usually get mauled by a swarm of enemies without any resistance. I am not sure how that is even possible because the opponents themselves can be easily killed.

None of the levels are unique. For the most part, they are all the same rudimentary restricted surroundings. I felt like the game was unintentionally humorous for no apparent reason. Regrettably, there is absolutely no multiplayer in the game. The lack of a multiplayer is exacerbated by the fact that there is nothing done extraordinarily well in the game. Players will feel like the ambiance of the game has a mundane look. The gameplay will take the avid player approximately eleven hours to fourteen hours to complete from start to finish. Visually, there is nothing in the game that will make anyone have a "Wow, that looks incredible" moment. The full motion cut-scenes themselves are amazing, but the actual gameplay footage is banal. I would have appreciated better graphics from a next generation console like the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The audio in the game is nothing to be elated about either. Yes, there is music and voice acting. However, there is really no point in having music and voice acting when they are both lackluster. Overall, Clive Barker's Jericho is a video that is not for everyone. No, the game is not on par with BioShock. The game is not exemplary, but the game is not egregious. It is just plain average.

Assassin's Creed Review - Ubisoft At Its Best

By Sayed Islam

Assassin's Creed is a video game available for the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. The game comes from the creators who worked on the Prince of Persia games. No one can question the quality of games from Ubisoft due to the release of games such as Splinter Cell, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, and Prince of Persia. Assassin's Creed is Ubisoft's next installment of a game that has been in development for close to four years. The storyline in the game transpires in 1191 during the time when the nefarious Third Crusade tormented innocent civilians in Jerusalem. Here is where the role of the assassin come into play.

The protagonist in the game is Altair, and he just happens to be a skillful assassin. It is revealed to gamers that Altair was unsuccessful in eradicating Robert de Sable (Master of the Templar Knights). As a result, Altair is on a mission to recover his acclaim that he earned before he failed to eliminate Robert de Sable. Fortunately, Sinan (the leader of the Assassin's) extends an olive branch to Altair and gives Altair an opportunity to make amends for his past blunders. Sinan tells Altair to exterminate the men responsible for the Third Crusade and end the tyranny caused by these men. Consequently, Altair complies with Sinan's request and prepares himself to annihilate the Third Crusade. This is where players will begin playing Assassin's Creed. The game is definitely has an engrossing plot from beginning to end.

Let me get straight to the point: this game is brilliant. There are endless possibilities in the game. For example, you can jump from rooftop to rooftop to avoid detection. Conversely, this game also offers a much more conspicuous method to killing adversaries. The amount of freedom in Assassin's Creed is truly exemplary. Damascus, Acre, and Jerusalem are where the three major gameplay will occur. The majority of the gameplay will take place in three phases: phase one is the approach, phase two is the assassination, and phase three is the escape. In order to be successful in the game, all of the three phases of gameplay are mandatory. The approach is how well you premeditate for the assassination. This entails knowing the terrain and assessing the location of foes. The assassination is the actual killing of the target. This can be done in a clandestine manner or a visible technique. Sometimes Altair is left with no alternative but to be discernible. Other times he will have an option to execute a target surreptitiously.

Last but certainly not least is the escape. This is how proficiently you manage to flee from the scene of the assassination. Altair can knock down people and obstacles to elude the onslaught of opponents chasing him. All of the three phases are enjoyable and provide a great deal of depth to the gameplay. The versatility in the game is another element that really shines. Altair can pilfer information from strangers, protect pedestrians from being mugged, and slaughter guards. Furthermore, there are optional side missions that are available. There are a grand total of nine core objectives in the game, and they all start in a similar fashion. Climbing to the very top of buildings to scan the area is pivotal. If anyone is pondering whether or not getting back down is a vexing process, then the answer to that question is no.

Once Altair reaches an incredible height atop a building, he can dive straight down into an enormous pile of hay to break his fall. Even with all of the intricate maneuvers that Altair has in his arsenal, the controls are immensely accessible. Instead of having a jump button, there are simple action buttons that enable Altair to circumvent the surroundings. This is particularly useful when Altair is outnumbered and needs to get somewhere with ease. The game gives Altair the ability to complete objectives in various ways. For instance, climbing a wall or rushing through the front gate. One of the most unique gameplay mechanic is how Altair can use the crowd to his advantage. He can mesh with the people around him to keep a low profile and get from point A to point B. Nonetheless, attempting to blend in with the crowd does have its consequences. If you do something out of the ordinary, then the people will react accordingly and attention will be drawn to you. The combat in the game is fairly challenging and entertaining. Do not expect to just pulverize enemies (ala God of War) because Altair attacks can be blocked.

The best course of action is from counterattacks. Precise timing is needed to perfect an instantaneous one hit counterattack kill. These counterattacks are not implausible, but they do require some skill to master. They work in a similar way the counterattack system in Heavenly Sword. The fight sequences are realistic, and Altair will be going up against formidable adversaries. With that said, they also act exactly in that same manner. Some guards will run away from Altair, and other guards will taunt Altair. It varies for each guard; they all have different personalities and mannerisms. There are four weapons Altair has at his disposal: a long sword, a short sword, throwing knives, and a hidden blade. A long sword is the primary weapon that does a fair amount of damage. The short sword gives Altair a chance to attack swiftly with little damage. Throwing knives are incorporated to dispose of enemies from afar. This is especially useful when Altair is on a rooftop. The hidden blade is utilized mostly for a one hit assassination. You can easily switch the weapons you have equipped because they are all mapped to the directional pad. In addition, Altair can use his fists for interrogating people.

The graphics in the game are stunning. All of the characters in the crowd have their own distinctions and look different. The architecture looks significantly well represented. The animations are remarkable: everything from falling down to jumping look spotless. There are even beggars who will implore you for some money. The audio in this game is absolutely spectacular. Sounds of swords clashing against each other is gratifying. The voice acting is superb. Every line of dialogue is extraordinarily delivered. Gamers will also hear the sound of people bantering with each other in the crowd and birds chirping in the distance. The only lingering flaw with the game is the artificial intelligence of the enemies. Sometimes they will act like blind squirrels trying to look for you. Overall, there is no doubt that this game is Ubisoft's best game. Ubisoft has a knack for creating amazing video games, and Assassin's Creed is no exception to that rule.

Final Verdict: 9.3 out of 10

De Blob Preview

By Russell Hancock

One of the greatest innovations attributed to the Wii aside from its unique controls is the sheer amount of unique games it brings to the table. De Blob is no exception to this, with the main antagonist being a small gelatinous blob whose sole purpose is to bring color back to Chroma City by painting it, one building at a time. The story is that the Inkt Corporation has sucked all the life from the environment and it's up to De Blob to absorb various types of paint in order to leave his mark on just about anything he touches.

The concept seems pretty simple, but the game play seems amazingly addictive. Apparently, you control de Blob with your nunchuk and simple wiggle the Wii-mote in order to make him jump. De Blob also has the ability to slide and jump from wall to wall, performing wall jumps and leaving splashes of color. The game play is quite open ended, as there is a story-line, but you complete various different challenges based around a clock. The more challenges you complete, the more time the clock gives you to complete your ultimate goal. There are tons of these mini-challenges scattered around the free range environment, including such small tasks as painting a specific building a certain color, to more action based tasks like taking out enemies which come at you in waves. Keep in mind if you'd rather just paint your way through the game, you're able to do this as well. Each building you paint adds time to your clock and contributes to your color meter. When you get the specified number for that level, a gate opens and you can exit to the next level.

Small cutscenes splice the levels together and help keep the story moving. They're pretty humorous little clips of what life is like for ordinary citizens under the oppression of the Inkt Corporation. If you enjoyed a particular cutscene, you can always return and watch it again by bringing it up in the extras menu. Many of the scenes are reminiscent of Pixar's style and humor. You also have the ability to change de Blob's mood, which in turn changes the soundtrack of that level. This is a great way to keep the game fresh and interesting, as many people complain music gets too repetitive in their favorite games.

In addition to the story mode, de Blob also has other modes of play available. Free paint is unlocked after you've beaten a certain level, and grants you the ability to play through the same environment without having to worry about the clock or enemies. It's basically the Sandbox mode for each level in the game and allows you to paint the buildings in which ever way you'd like. There are also several multi-player modes, in which you can compete against three other players.

All in All, de Blob is shaping up to be a great game which will keep Wii owners busy for quite awhile.
